E-library opened at Neemka Jail in Haryana

Chandigarh, May 9 (PTI) An e-library was inaugurated today at Neemka Jail in Faridabad.

The e-library was inaugurated today by the Haryana Director General of Prisons Yashpal Singhal. It has been set up by India Vision Foundation (IVF) and G-Fore Group at the jail in Faridabad, a release said here.internet-library

Reading gets a boost, children’s library opens

To promote the habit of reading among children, the municipal corporation (MC) inaugurated its newly renovated children’s library at Children’s Traffic Park, Model Town, on Friday. Accompanied by a group of children, mayor Harcharan Singh Gohalwaria and MC commissioner GK Singh Dhaliwal inaugurated the library.

The library has received a lot of support from area residents. According to officials, they donated furniture and books for the library. Dhaliwal said children’s books in Punjabi, Hindi and English will be on offer at the library.

Dhaliwal said residents had already donated around 1,000 books and some had also promised to donate books worth Rs 1 lakh soon. “The role of residents is surely appreciated,” Dhaliwal said.

MC officials said the genre of books at the library would include fiction, non-fiction and current affairs. Newspapers and magazines will also be available.

Executive engineer H S Bhullar said doctors from nearby nursing homes had promised that they would donate new books for the library. He said the main motive behind the renovation was to encourage reading among children.

Meanwhile, area residents said books on academics should also be available at this library.

Scientists X-ray chocolate

An X-ray study carried out at DESY allows to improve the quality of chocolate. The study offers new insights into the formation of fat bloom, an unwelcome white layer that occasionally forms on chocolate. “Although fat blooming is perfectly harmless, it causes millions in damage to the food industry as a result of rejects and customer complaints,” explains the main author of the study, Svenja Reinke, from the Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH). “Despite this well known quality issue, comparatively little has been known until now about its root causes.” The team from TUHH, DESY and the food company Nestl√© presents its findings in the journal Applied Materials and Interfaces published by the American Chemical Society.
