Allahabad University puts up ramps for special students

The Allahabad University authorities have taken note of the plight of their special students and have started building a ramp at the entrance of their Central library. Though a temporary arrangement, it would definitely go a long way in making the academic years of special students that much more memorable

The move to build the ramp was initiated after TOI brought to light the problem faced by special students. Among all the buildings on various campuses of AU, the absence of a ramp was felt most at the Central library as it is visited by almost all students, including the special ones, on a daily basis. In February this year, AU authorities had constructed makeshift ramps in three important offices at the Arts campus, including the office of the dean student welfare (DSW), V-C’s office and English department. With this, hitherto inaccessible areas were brought within the reach of such students.

Student Union library at Allahabad University set to be revamped

After remaining non-functional for past several decades, the library located at Allahabad University student union hall, would start functioning in the coming days. This would be possible after assurance of providing a one-time grant of Rs Five lakhs for the library by the Bhartiya Janta Party’s Member of Parliament from Bhadhoi, Virendra Singh.

The assurance by the MP was given while attending a function organised by the AU student union at union hall building, recently. The monetary help by the MP would be provided by MP’s fund for developmental work. “The MP has assured the students for extending similar helping hand in future for such constructive works”, said the vice-president of the student’s union, Vikrant Singh.
Following the assurance of the MP, the library of the union hall, which once flourished in the back room of the union hall building, could get a new lease of life. Presently, the hall, which once used to be the library, is in pathetic state as most of the precious books have disappeared from the library and the remaining books are gathering dust. The monetary help by the MP could be used for revamping the facilities of the library. “Although the funds could fell short of what is needed to start the facility, but it can certainly make the library functional provided the authorities and student leaders have the will”, said one of the former student leader of AU
